The biggest problem is our stairs - we have two sets - a short set from the living room up into the kitchen, and the long steep set near the front door that goes down into the basement. Now, Eli didn't walk until 15 months (Owen is 11 months), and he wouldn't go NEAR any stairs unless I was holding his hand. Owen on the other hand is intent on flinging himself head first down the stairs. Both stairways have awkward configurations that our baby gate won't fit either, so I'm researching configurable gates (yay, just what I wanted to spend nearly $100 on), but in the meantime it's vigilance alone keeping the child from certain injury. Just today he plummeted head first down the short set of stairs - I dove to catch him but wasn't fast enough. He has no fear, and thinks he can just do it. I have pushed my couch up against the entrance to the basement stairs as a barricade, so anyone coming in our front door will have to jump or climb over in order to actually get into our house! On the plus side, having the couch in the entry way sure makes the living room look bigger - all the more space for the boys to run around with their little push toys. The short set of stairs is still unprotected, and Owen already climbs them as if he's been doing it all along - but I've got to be right behind him because he inevitably tumbles backwards.
The next biggest danger besides the stairs is simply BIG BROTHER. Eli is THRILLED that Owen is walking! He is so excited about it that he thinks Owen is ready to just run and play and rough house, so I have to remind him every ten seconds to play gently, be careful, don't push or bump or run into Owen....
I have to admit, it is pretty adorable to watch him toddling around. But I was so worn out from chasing and protecting him all day, that I practically went comatose on the couch when Brad finally got home and took over. I'd better get those gates ordered soon...

P.S. You might recognize the monkey PJ's... yes they are Eli's from last season - a 2T!

Oh my heck. He is so stinkin' cute! I want him to come over right now and toddle around with Emmie! They would be so adorable together with their Frankenstein walks!
I hear you about the gate thing... Those things are so expensive! I am trying hard to see if I can get away without making that purchase, although I'm probably risking Emmie's life on it? Nice mommy, ay?
And SHEESH! Chasing a toddler (or TWO!) really IS exhausting! I was laughing about the couch thing...:) Such is life these days, right?
Oh, and your pumpkin pics are darling! :)
look at that cute BIG boy. that is shaelyn - absolutely fearless, completely unaware of potential danger. luckily, she's calmed down the stunts a bit as she's gotten older. but michael and i call her our future stunt double.
I think there must have been something in the water in MA as Ash is doing stairs at least daily, with no fear so I have to watch and make sure I am right behind her. Not only that I keep catching her standing on her own as in she lets go of whatever she has climbed up on and is standing there on her own. I fear she will be walking within the next month. Owen is so cute and I can't believe how big he is. ps thanks for the check.
Baby cages. I am beginning to see the appeal ;)
Those pictures of Owen are adorable! So I am with Michelle on the whole gate thing I have nearly lost Bryotn on several occasions to our stupid stairs. Luckily Madison or I have been there to rescue him but I really do need to invest in a gate it would sure make my life much easier and spare Bryton a few bruises. I love that he never crawled, I have heard of several babies lately going straight to walking...why waste your time right? One of these days I will get to post something to this effect but for now my 13 month old has no interst. Hope things settle down for you but if your boys are as active as mine all I can say is Good Luck!
Oh my! What a sweetie! He is sooo cute! I must agree stairs are a bear! We have a one story but in AZ we had stairs and I was always on pins and needles affraid that some baby would toddle down when I wasn't looking. It's danger I tell ya! Gates are a lifesaver and I have used them MANY times! I've always just used teh GRACO ones from walmart and they work fine...good luck with that sweet new walker!
